I returned to New York City last week, after a three year absence
. I returned to what has come to be known as Ground Zero, for the first time since August of 2001; just before our world was turned upside down. As I walked amongst the streets and buildings that remain of the World Financial Center, I could feel the proud spirits that lost their lives on that fateful day five years ago. If eyes are the windows to the soul, then can the windows in these pictures reflect the souls that went to heaven on that day?
On this solemn day, remember the familes that lost love ones on that day. Do not gloss over their pain with the easy trappings of political ambission. Our country as a whole may have lost it’s collective innocence, but that pales in comparison to the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends that now have a void where there love ones once stood. Give them strength with your love and compassion. Keep them in your prayers and thoughts.
