I just finished watching the first episode of Baz Lurhmann’s The Get Down on Netflix. (Where There is Ruin, There is Hope for a Treasure). Immediately through sight and sound, I am transported to the New York City of my youth in the late 1970’s. The characters and setting feel someone added weight to magic realism in order to give it a corporeal property. As this is serialized story telling, I will save my review until after I finish the first six episodes.
